Counselor's Roles & Responsibilities:
To ACTIVELY listen to you, helping you develop a better understanding so you may effectively deal with your concerns.
To protect your privacy.
To notify you on a timely basis of need to reschedule an appointment.
To take you seriously.
To discuss anything you wish to discuss.
To work with you, but not do for you what you can do for yourself.
To charge fees that are in line with professional and community standards.
To avoid dual roles and conflicts of interest that may interfere with the therapeutic process.
To strive to do what is in your best interest and to do you no harm.
To assist in insurance billing and authorizations.
To avoid lengthy delays in beginning sessions.
To refer you to other professionals for areas outside counselor's level of competence.
Client's Roles & Responsibilities:
To work together with the counselor in developing a treatment plan.
To call a day ahead if you need to reschedule.
To talk openly and honestly about your history, issues and concerns.
To complete homework assignments and readings.
To experiment and try new healthy behaviors.
To commit to personal and relational growth.
To discuss your progress
To talk through any concerns about your counselor with your counselor.
To promptly pay for sessions and missed appointment fees.
To discuss termination of the counseling relationship with the counselor when you feel you are ready.
To respect the counselor's right to privacy and boundaries.
To not smoke inside the office and to discard cigarette butts in a container.
